St. Mary’s Church
St. Mary’s is Rostock’s largest church and one of the largest brickstone gothic buildings in the whole Baltic region. For more than 770 years, it has been a place of prayer, worship, meetings of civil or academic character, and a place of the arts.
The current building, an imposing Basilica in the shape of a cross, is the result of the transformation in the 15C of a church dating back to the previous century. The massive tower was only completed in the late 18C and gives you a panoramic view over the city. Inside the church, don't miss the astronomical clock (1472) - it includes a calendar that is valid until 2017. The delicate bronze work of the baptismal fonts also warrants your attention.
